A former girlfriend dropped bombshell allegations against Rep. Thomas Massie just days before a primary vote — and the timing has many conservatives asking whether this is a hit job.
Story Snapshot
- Cynthia West, Massie’s ex-girlfriend, claims he offered her $5,000 to drop a wrongful termination complaint against Rep. Victoria Spartz.
- Massie flatly denied the claims, calling them “false and unsubstantiated” and pointing out the suspicious timing — one week before his May 19 primary.
- Rep. Spartz also denied any knowledge of a settlement offer and said West’s temporary job was not renewed due to “concerning conduct.”
- No ethics complaints have ever been filed against Massie in his 14 years in office, and West has not publicly released evidence supporting her claims.
What West Alleges Against Massie
Cynthia West, a former congressional aide, went public in an online interview in May 2026. She claims Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) offered her $5,000 to “just walk away” from a wrongful termination complaint she planned to file against Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN). West also says she sought a $60,000 settlement for what she called “retaliatory discharge” from Spartz’s office. She did not publicly release any documents, texts, or recordings to back up her claims.
West also alleged that Massie bragged about a sexual encounter with Rep. Lauren Boebert. She says the relationship with Massie began after he contacted her on social media following the death of his wife in 2024. According to West, Massie made the alleged payment offer only after she told him she intended to pursue the complaint against Spartz. The allegations surfaced just one week before Massie faced a Republican primary challenger backed by President Donald Trump.
Massie and Spartz Push Back Hard
Massie denied every claim in a statement posted to social media. “All of the claims of inappropriate conduct are false. I’ve never offered anyone money in exchange for their silence,” he said. He called the allegations a clear attempt to influence the election outcome. Massie also noted that no ethics complaints have ever been filed against him in his 14 years in Congress, and said he has consulted legal counsel and is considering all options.
Rep. Spartz backed Massie and disputed West’s version of events. Her office said she had “never heard of an alleged $5,000 settlement proposal — or any other settlement proposal” from Massie. Spartz also clarified that West was not fired. Instead, her temporary 90-day employment simply was not extended due to what Spartz’s office called “concerning conduct” by West. Spartz denied West’s wrongful termination claims and refused to settle during the pre-filing period.
Suspicious Timing Raises Red Flags
The timing of these allegations is hard to ignore. Massie is one of the few Republicans who has openly defied Trump on issues like the Jeffrey Epstein files, foreign aid, and government spending. He now faces a Trump-backed primary challenger. The allegations surfaced just seven days before the May 19 vote. Massie pointed this out directly, saying it was “sad” that people were making unsubstantiated claims so close to election day.

Congress has a real and documented problem with workplace misconduct settlements. Taxpayers have paid over $300,000 in confidential sexual harassment settlements on behalf of six former House members since 2003, and more than $17 million in public money has gone toward settling workplace disputes on Capitol Hill since 1997. That broader pattern is worth knowing. But in Massie’s case specifically, no ethics complaint has ever been filed against him, and West has provided no documentary evidence to support her claims. Until evidence surfaces, conservatives are right to view this as a last-minute political attack.
