(JustPatriots.com)- After being caught colluding with big tech to censor speech that is antithetical to the preferred narrative, NewsGuard is now being hired by the government to censor conservative news outlets, according to Newsmax. NewsGuard is reportedly taking government contracts to operate as a filter and rater of conservative media.
Former Ambassador Richard Grenell said that the for-profit company, formed in 2018 by Steve Brill, is trying to be a referee in the digital news space. He continued to say that they are not being honest about what is actually misinformation or not, which the Department of State could do.
NewsGuard defines itself as a “transparent, accountable” company leading the fight against misinformation. They allegedly rate the credibility of media outlets and track their misinformation.
Grenell noted that the company is taking taxpayer dollars to fund its operations and observed that this is how the government takes control of the political narrative. The censorship giant reportedly claims that it is not taking government money, but records show that it accepted a $750,000 grant from the Department of Defense.
While appearing in front of the House Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, independent journalists Matt Taibbi and Michael Schellenberger testified about the way the government is colluding with big tech to censor “misinformation.”
“Both the Global Disinformation Index and NewsGuard are U.S. government-funded entities who are working to drive advertisers’ revenue away from disfavored publications and towards the ones they favor,” Schellenberger said.
The for-profit company has a history of funding the campaigns of former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and New York Senator Chuck Schumer. The conservative-leaning Media Research Center has analyzed the ratings of NewsGuard and found that it consistently gives right-wing outlets negative ratings while giving left-wing outlets “trusted” ratings.
Grenell lamented the one-party rule in Washington, D.C., noting how the Democrats control every aspect of the federal government, including the IRS, Department of Justice, and the FBI. He said that this would be preventable if there were a free and fair press.
