Actress Claims Her Fashion Choice Wasn’t Political

Actress Jennifer Lawrence clarified that she did not intend to prove a point or make a statement when she walked the red carpet at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in May.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Lawrence changed her footwear from the high heels she intended on wearing after receiving a pair that was one size too big. The actress feared falling, so she wore flip-flops to the event with her Christian Dior gown.

Her fashion choice caused a stir on the internet. Fans noticed that Lawrence wore flat shoes, which is inappropriate for such events. They assumed she was making a political statement with her choice.

She said she would like to resolve the issue once and for all – she was not making a political statement.

She said she was unaware of the controversy surrounding wearing flats or walking barefoot on the red carpet until it was brought to her attention.

Lawrence took photos with her production team, Excellent Cadaver, without knowing about the ongoing comments being made about her on the internet.

She said they had to take an Excellent Cadaver picture, and she knew she would fall if she wore too big shoes.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding wearing high heels at the Cannes Film Festival, which has led to online discussions. According to reports, there was widespread outrage when women who wore flat shoes were denied entry to the 2015 festival. Julia Roberts walked on the red carpet without shoes the following year, challenging the issue. Kristen Stewart and Susan Sarandon also wore flats in protest to demand change.

Lawrence clarified that she intended to be safe while walking on the red carpet and she wanted no misunderstandings about her intent.

Jennifer Lawrence became a household name in 2012 after her appearance in the widely popular movie, The Hunger Games.
