Kevin McCarthy May Release Footage Of January 6th, He Says

( House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said that he is going to release all of the U.S. Capitol security footage from January 6, 2021, according to The Daily Wire. McCarthy told reporters that Americans should see all of what went on that day, blasting the select committee for its biased political report.

“I want to be very thoughtful about it. But yes, I’m engaged to do that,” he said.

McCarthy made his comments after Rep. Matt Gaetz said that the speaker was going to release 14,000 hours of hidden tapes. He also said that the footage would give context to the “cherry-picked moments” from the select committee that just further divided the country. Gaetz previously led the effort against McCarthy, arguing that he is not the consensus candidate the Republican Party needed.

While speaking with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, Gaetz appeared satisfied with McCarthy’s willingness to go after the agencies that have become politically weaponized.

On January 6, 2021, then-President Donald Trump held his “Stop the Steal” rally in Washington, D.C. After he gave a speech, he directed his supporters to go to the Capitol as Congress certified the election results in favor of Joe Biden.

Capitol Police had warned of giving footage to attorneys for January 6 defendants, citing national security, copy, and dissemination concerns. However, congressional committees controlled by Democrats were given access to the footage.

As the January 6 Select Committee wrapped up its investigation before the 118th Congress came in, they called on the Department of Justice to prosecute former President Trump despite lacking the constitutional authority to do so, according to Breitbart. The committee is alleging that Trump committed multiple crimes.

House Republicans released their own report countering the committees. Rep. Jim Banks, who led the rebuttal, said that it “exposes the partisanship, incompetence, and indifference that led to the disaster on January 6.” He added that then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi was implicated in the attack.
