Local officials in Ohio have released surveillance footage showing a woman who is suspected of stalking a mother and her 3-year-old son as they walked through a grocery store. Last week, the woman allegedly stabbed the mother and son in the parking lot, killing the child.
According to a statement released by the North Olmsted Police Department (NOPD), a female suspect they started following the mother and son, Julian Wood, 3, and his mother, Margot Wood, 38, while they were shopping at a Giant Eagle grocery store in the Cleveland suburb on June 3.
A newly released police film shows the assailant following the mother and kid as they exit the store and into the parking lot just seconds before the tragic attack.
The 32-year-old Cleveland, Ohio, resident Bionca Ellis is facing many charges following the attack, including murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault, according to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley. Ellis is scheduled to return to court on Monday. He is currently being detained on a $1 million bail.
At 2:58 p.m., authorities claim Elis entered the grocery shop with a knife that she had stolen from a local thrift store, according to video footage shot inside the business. In the footage, Ellis walks past Margot Wood, who is seen pulling a shopping cart with Julian, as she approaches the self-checkout area.
As shown in the video, the suspect swiftly turns around and pursues the mother and child as soon as Wood passes Ellis.
Multiple 911 calls were received by the New Orleans Police Department just after 3 p.m. on June 3, describing a black female “stabbing people in the parking lot of Giant Eagle.”
The NOPD reports that when officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Ellis wandering nearby, with the kitchen knife that had been used in the attack still in his possession.
