U.S. Airstrike Leaves 27 Dead

(JustPatriots.com)- Two weeks ago, United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced that it had conducted a successful air strike against al Shabaab terrorists in central Somalia who were attacking forces of the Somali National Army on Sunday, September 18, killing 27 militants.

The strike was carried out near Buulobarde in central Somalia to allow the Somali National Army and forces from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to “regain the initiative and continue the operation to disrupt al Shabaab” in the central region of Hiraan.

According to AFRICOM, this was the largest combined Somali/ATMIS operation in five years.

No civilians were injured in the strike.

The September 18 air strike came just after a Somali military operation killed over 100 al Shabaab terrorists and recaptured two villages in Hiraan.

At least six US strikes have been launched against the al Qaeda-linked terrorist group since the beginning of the year. In August, a series of air strikes were launched, including one that killed at least 13 al Shabaab militants.

In early September, AFRICOM commander, General Michael Langley, began his second trip to Africa since taking charge, visiting Niger and Chad. Langley said in a statement that AFRICOM was committed to working with African partners to fight violent extremists in the region
