A Cordova woman is pleading for the return of her car and her late father’s belongings after a terrifying incident in which her home was surrounded by armed men who ultimately stole her vehicle. Chelsey Allen described the harrowing ordeal, which took place late at night, as a nightmare come true.
“I worked hard for my vehicle. I paid it off in full,” Allen told WREG. “It’s how I got to work. I can’t take my daughter to school right now. She missed school all last week. I just want to stop everybody for the sake of Memphis.”
The suspects were first seen lurking around her home at around 11 p.m., and while they turned away her security camera, a neighbor’s surveillance footage captured what happened next. A few hours later, the gunmen returned, pointing weapons at her front door and garage before stealing her Infiniti G37 from the driveway.
Allen recounted the fear she felt knowing the gunmen were so close to her home. “He stood here at the garage. I guess in case anyone opened it,” she said. “We’re in and out of the door at all times – come and grab stuff out of the car and bring the dogs out. So, (it’s) scary to know that a person was standing right at our doorway with a gun.”
The car’s theft is especially heartbreaking for Allen, as it contained belongings from her father, who passed away less than a month ago. She is desperately hoping for the return of the vehicle or, at the very least, her father’s keepsakes.
“Find a way to turn your lives around and do the right thing,” Allen said, urging the thieves. “If you have to just take the stuff out of the car and drop it off at a police precinct or somewhere I can find it. That will be appreciated too.”
So far, no arrests have been made. Memphis police are investigating the incident, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
