Teenagers in Car Caught Deliberately Striking Boy on Bicycle in Bellevue

Bellevue police are trying to track down two juveniles they believe may have purposefully struck a 13-year-old boy riding a bike before fleeing the scene.

The event took place on Saturday night in the 9500 block of Lake Washington Boulevard Northeast. At 8:22 p.m., the police were dispatched to the location.

According to eyewitnesses, a silver Hyundai Elantra carrying a group of minors veered into the bike lane on purpose, colliding with the victim as he rode home from a park.

A red sunshade or towel had been used in lieu of the rear driver-side window.

Officials have confirmed that the incident took place close to Clyde Beach Park on Lake Washington Blvd. NE.

The victim was returning from a swim when witnesses saw the accused swerve on purpose and collide with him in the bike lane. They also screamed and tossed a black Puma shoe at the victim just before they struck him.

After being transported to Overlake Hospital, the youngster received treatment for injuries that were severe but not life-threatening. The very same day, he was discharged from the hospital. Additionally, his bike was destroyed.

BPD is asking anyone in Bellevue who may have witnessed the event or who may have seen a silver Hyundai Elantra in the area around 8 p.m. to call the police immediately. According to BPD, any information on the kids’ identities is “essential” in prosecuting them for second-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief.

The Bellevue Police Department (BPD) stated that the driver of the car was a teenage female with short black hair. Other individuals in the vehicle were unable to be identified.

The mother of the victim spoke out, saying that a group who clearly do not value human life attacked her son, who was riding his bike home from the beach, adding that the attack was unprovoked. She said they threw a shoe at him before side-swiping him in the bike lane, severely injuring his entire left side. She worries that this gang will keep hurting people until something is done.
