(JustPatriots.com)- Taiwan, the western Pacific island off the coast of China, has insisted that the Chinese Communist Party will not intimidate the country into silence. President Tsai Ing-wen told visiting French senators in Taiwan last Thursday that despite the rising tensions with China, which asserts Taiwan is not an independent country but a part of the Chinese empire, Taiwan will continue to play its role as a member of the international community.
Former French Defense Minister Alain Richard arrived with three other senators in Taiwan last Wednesday, despite the Chinese Communist Party’s objections to the meeting. China believes that Taiwan is a territory and that it should not be visited by foreign dignitaries or politicians.
The French visit to Taiwan followed four consecutive days of Chinese air force missions over Taiwan’s air defense zone, in a clear intimidatory tactic to stop the meetings going ahead. But President Tsai told the visiting French that he was thankful for their support, while also stressing his concern about the situation his country finds itself in.
The United States and multiple Western allies have expressed disagreement with China over the continuing intimidation.
President Tsai added that she intends to continue her nation’s responsibilities as a member of the international community and will work to “ensure peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.” She added that she hopes to make “more contributions to the world along with France.”
French Senator Alain Richard has previously visited Taiwan in 2015 and 2018, and defied advice from the Chinese Embassy in Paris in March of this year to avoid meeting Taiwanese officials.
Imagine if President Joe Biden was so willing to stand up to the Chinese like the French so evidently are…
