Bee stings are no laughing matter. Many people often realize they are allergic to bee stings after they have been stung. Bee stings can potentially be fatal to some, with an average of 72 deaths per year from bee, wasp, and hornet stings from 2011 to 2021. It has been reported that 84% of those deaths occurred in males. In a recent and more popular case, actor Matthew McConaughey suffered an allergic reaction to a bee sting. However, the famous actor luckily did not suffer any further health issues.
Recently, Matthew McConaughey uploaded a selfie to his Instagram account. Immediately, viewers can notice that the right side of McConaughey’s face is extremely swollen, to the point the Interstellar actor couldn’t open his right eye. McConaughey comically posted a caption with his post stating, “bee swell”, which suggested that the actor had been stung by a bee on his face.
McConaughey’s comment section was filled with well wishes from fans soon after. One commenter humorously commented, “Bee careful!”, others were along the lines of take care and get well soon. The official Instagram account of McConaughey’s tequila brand, Pantalones Tequila, even commented asking, “You good boss?”.
McConaughey’s recent bee sting selfie is not the first time the Oscar-winning actor made a social media post that shocked fans. In May of this year, McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves posed for a picture pantless while playing pickleball and running through the ingredients of a cocktail recipe. The unethical post was an advertisement for Pantalones Tequila, which ironically translates to tequila pants in Spanish. The advertisement was delivered on May 3rd, which was a humorous nod to National No Pants Day.
McConaughey and his wife Alves met in 2006 at Joan’s Club in California. The famous couple reportedly hit it off over drinks with friends. In 2012, the couple married in Texas and have been together ever since parenting three young children together.
