A Reign of Terror Ends

Joshua Dotson, a Memphis man who referred to himself as a “serial killer,” has been sentenced to an additional 159 years in prison, bringing his total sentence to a staggering 261 years for five murders. The sentencing marks the end of a terrifying chapter for the Tennessee community, as Dotson’s crimes spanned several years and claimed multiple victims.

Dotson’s criminal history includes the murder of his former girlfriend, Jamesha Covson, and their unborn child in 2020. For these crimes, he had already received two consecutive life sentences totaling 102 years. The additional 159-year sentence came after Dotson pleaded guilty to three more counts of first-degree murder on Valentine’s Day 2025.

A Chilling Confession

During the trial, Dotson’s behavior shocked the courtroom as he embraced his heinous acts. In a disturbing statement, Dotson declared, “I’m Michael Myers,” comparing himself to the fictional serial killer from the “Halloween” movie franchise. This chilling self-proclamation underscored the severity of his crimes and his apparent lack of remorse.

Dotson’s admission extended beyond the murders he was charged with. He confessed to killing Covson because he believed she had informed the police about his previous murders. This revelation shed light on the calculated nature of his crimes and the twisted logic behind his actions.

Justice Served

The sentencing brought a sense of relief to the prosecutors and the public. Prosecutor Regina Lucreziano expressed satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the importance of removing Dotson from society permanently.

“After five years, we are pleased to finally have justice for Dotson’s multiple victims. His sentences, both from the guilty verdict after a trial and these two pleas today, amount to 261 years in prison,” said prosecutor Regina Lucreziano. “While no amount of time in prison will bring the victims back to their loved ones, we are content that he will never be a threat to our community again.”

The case, handled by ADA Regina Lucreziano and Chief Prosecutor Lessie Rainey, has been a long and difficult one. The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office expressed hope that the sentencing would bring some measure of closure to the victims’ families.
