“Secret Threat Report” Didn’t Name Trump Supporters, Despite Media Cries

(JustPatriots.com)- Over the last few months, Newsweek has been running a series on the January 6 riot at the Capitol which is expected to reach its peak just in time to mark the first anniversary. In a recent installment of this histrionic, breathless account of “Insurrection,” Newsweek revealed that a December 30, 2020 intelligence report on domestic violent extremism didn’t mention the violent extremist Trump supporters who attempted to launch an “insurrection” to “overthrow our democracy.”

And Newsweek is gobsmacked that the government failed to notice those dangerous, scary, domestic terrorist grandmas in time to stop the “violent” “insurrection.”

Plus, Newsweek explains while clutching its pearls, the intelligence report itself was too vague. Sure, it cited different kinds of domestic violent extremists, but it didn’t out-and-out name such groups like The Proud Boys or the Oath-Keepers.

How, oh how could the government be so blindsided by those frothing-at-the-mouth extremist Trump supporters?

Newsweek believes nobody would argue that what happened on January 6 is the definition of domestic violent extremism. But because the government’s legal definitions are so vague, it’s no wonder the FBI wasn’t paying attention to those angry Trump voters “who were openly threatening violence before January 6.”

They even found a retired FBI “executive” who agreed to speak with Newsweek, but only on the condition of anonymity because he was afraid those extremist Trump supporters he discussed would seek retaliation against him. This guy said the FBI has two major constraints that hobble its efforts to combat domestic terrorism. First, there’s too much emphasis on dismantling organized groups like the mob or al Qaeda. And second, the feds are hamstrung by that pesky free speech thing in the Constitution.

In short, the FBI can’t violate the civil rights of American citizens and that’s a problem.

What Newsweek fails to grasp is that not one of the hundreds of people arrested in connection with the January 6 riot have been charged with terrorism, “insurrection,” or sedition.

The FBI admitted this summer that what happened on January 6 was not a criminal conspiracy, but a spontaneous riot.

But the point of this Newsweek series is to further the “Insurrection” narrative while portraying the Democrats’ political opponents as domestic terrorists.

Just ignore them.
