Meghan Markle will endorse Kamala Harris for President, according to online rumors. Royal experts speculate that Markle will use her upcoming 43rd birthday to mark Harris’s candidacy and enter the political arena in the hopes of boosting her popularity. Richard Fitzwilliams said there has been speculation for some time that the Duchess intends to enter politics, and the excitement surrounding Harris’s campaign presents a perfect opportunity for her.
Fitzwilliams added that it is unclear whether the Democratic Party would welcome Markle, particularly in light of her Royal title. He said it would be interesting to see how it plays out and how involved Ms. Markle will seek to be.
Earlier this year, there was similar speculation that Markle intended to enter the political arena when she spoke out about “misinformation.” The Archewell Foundation, founded by the couple, joined an initiative aimed at helping voters spot fake artificial intelligence-generated political content online. Some commentators, however, accused Harry and Meghan of hypocrisy.
Royal biographer Angela Levin said the Duke and Duchess are themselves guilty of spreading misinformation, as she doubted some of the claims made during an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
The couple spoke to the talk show queen after leaving Britain for California and withdrawing from official Royal duties. The interview caused a storm of controversy in Britain, particularly the couple’s accusations that the Royal family is racist and that the “firm”—the name given to the officials that regulate the British Monarchy’s affairs—offered no help to Meghan, who was struggling to settle into one of the most regulated institutions in the world.
Markle told Oprah that she had even contemplated suicide, but the British “stiff upper lip” mentality meant she received little sympathy. Once one of the most popular Royals, Prince Harry became one of the most unpopular with the British public, unhappy that the revered Royal family was smeared on international television. Harry’s relationship with his family, including his brother and future King, Prince William, was severely damaged, and the brothers reportedly no longer speak. When Harry visited the UK earlier this year, his father, the King, refused to meet with him, saying he could not spare the time.
