(JustPatriots.com)- Whether he’s ready to run or not, talk about Florida Governor Ron DeSantis running for president in 2024 has begun.
According to media reports, Ed Rollins, the long-ago campaign chairman for former President Ronald Reagan, and conservative activist Lillian Rodriguez-Baz helped launch a political action committee in DeSantis’ honor this week. The “Ready For Ron” PAC has no direct ties to DeSantis, who is seeking re-election as governor of Florida in November. The PAC may just be wishful thinking. But in the meantime, it claims it will begin assembling an army of supporters to persuade DeSantis to run for president in 2024.
DeSantis could appear to be a shoo-in for a White House candidacy in any other two-year election cycle, reports say. But he seems to be in no haste to run for president at 43. Especially because former President Donald Trump, 75, is expected to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. DeSantis and Trump are seen as political friends, but if the two popular leaders are forced to sling the proverbial “mud” during the 2024 primary season, things could get ugly.
Because Trump and DeSantis both represent the state of Florida, they would be barred from running for president and vice president on the same ticket in a general election, election rules show. But the PAC set up to draft Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to run for president has taken the unusual step of asking the Federal Election Commission (FEC) permission to share its supporter list with the potential candidate if he decides to run.
News reports show none of the GOP’s other presidential hopefuls like DeSantis, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and former Vice President Mike Pence have made formal announcements about their plans for 2024. That may hint to former President Donald Trump, who is still the Republican Party’s most powerful asset, that he won’t be challenged.
But the “Ready For Ron” PAC claims they’re not worried about whether or not Trump is going to run. They suggest that Ron DeSantis is probably the best person right now to carry on Trump’s ‘America First’ agenda policy.
DeSantis tells the media that he’s focused on beating the Democrat Party challenger in the Florida governor race when asked about a possible 2024 run during a recent TV interview. He explained that he aims to win by a large margin so that those who analyze elections would declare that the days of Florida being a swing state are over. The state of Florida is a red state. And I believe it’s due to much of what we’ve done.
