In a dispatch, the Ministry of Defense stated, “In Kherson direction, today, at 05.00 am Moscow time, units of the Russian military ended their redeployment to the left bank of the Dnepr river.”
The Russian military stated earlier this week that it could not provide food and water to all of the soldiers stationed in the city of Kherson, which led to the announcement of its plan to withdraw from the city.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed skepticism on the possibility that Russian troops will withdraw from Kherson, which they have occupied since the end of February, without any incidents taking place.
In response to the news of the retreat, a presidential adviser for the Ukrainian government named Mykhailo Podolyak stated, “Actions speak louder than words.”
He said there are no indications that Russia will withdraw from Kherson without a struggle. He said Ukraine liberates territory based on intelligence and facts, not manufactured TV announcements.
The Russian military announced on Friday that all its personnel and resources had been moved to the right bank of the Dnieper River, away from Kherson. The Kremlin seized Kherson in September through referendums that were widely criticized as corrupt.
The Ministry of Defense noted that those who have voiced their wish to abandon the right-bank area of the Kherson region were “supported in evacuation.”
According to what was written in the ministry’s report, during the night, the adversary sought to thwart the transit of civilians and the repositioning of forces to the left bank of the Dnepr.
In addition, it was said that there had been no casualties and that weaponry, hardware, and other material means had not been damaged.
Ukraine remains skeptical, warning that it still may be a trap. They may be attempting to lure in Ukraine troops with their guard down.
