Public Library Goes Full Woke With LGBTQ Event

An upcoming winter celebration at a public library in Alaska is set to embrace diversity and inclusivity. On January 6th, the Soldotna Public Library will host a special event to promote LGBTQ visibility and understanding. The highlight of the celebration will be a drag queen story hour titled “Happy New Queer,” specifically designed for children.

Organized by Soldotna Pride, an LGBTQ activist group, the event will feature six guest drag performers, including the famous drag queen Andrew Castelli, known by his stage name “Ivanna Kischacok.” Ivanna is known for his captivating performances, often featuring glamorous ball gowns, feathers, corsets, and thigh-high boots. This drag queen story hour is just one part of a day-long celebration that will also include a performance at a local grocery store and a “Queer Karaoke” event at a nearby bar.

While hosting this event, the Soldotna Public Library has clarified that they do not endorse any specific materials or viewpoints expressed during the celebration. However, they encourage residents to attend the drag queen story hour, emphasizing its inclusivity and family-friendly nature. The event will feature local authors, and special guest drag readers, ensuring an engaging and entertaining experience for all attendees.

Soldotna Pride has previously organized events targeting youth, which have sparked controversy. However, the library’s winter celebration aims to create a safe and supportive space for all individuals, regardless of their age or background. It is an opportunity to foster community understanding, acceptance, and respect.

While some individuals have expressed concerns about the event, claiming it is “misogynistic-themed,” alternatives are available for those who may not wish to attend. Traditional read-aloud story hours are held at a local hardware store on Saturday mornings, providing an option for parents who prefer a more conventional storytelling experience for their children.

The winter celebration at the Soldotna Public Library represents a step forward in promoting inclusivity and embracing diversity within the community. The library aims to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and accepted by offering a drag queen story hour and other LGBTQ-focused events. It is an opportunity to celebrate individuality, challenge stereotypes, and foster a sense of unity among community members.
