Trump Takes Aim at Federal Bloat

President Donald Trump has taken another significant step toward fulfilling his promise to drain the Washington swamp by signing an Executive Order targeting eight federal agencies for dismantling. The order instructs these agencies to operate at the bare minimum required by law, effectively gutting organizations that conservatives have long criticized for wasteful spending and liberal bias.

Among the agencies targeted are the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which oversees Voice of America, the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness. The order mandates these agencies to shut down non-legally required functions, cut staff, and reduce operations to the legal minimum within seven days.

Voice of America Under New Leadership

Former news anchor and staunch Trump ally Kari Lake has been appointed to lead Voice of America during this transformation period. Lake has already begun communicating with VOA staff, with reports indicating that some employees have been placed on administrative leave as part of the restructuring effort.

While Lake has expressed a belief that VOA could be improved rather than completely dismantled, the Executive Order indicates a more dramatic overhaul is underway. The USAGM, which has faced criticism from Republicans and Elon Musk for perceived anti-conservative bias, will see significant changes under the leadership of conservative media watchdog Brent Bozell, who has been nominated to lead the agency.

It looks like Lake, despite her best efforts, is out of a job – because VOA is being shut down.

“This order continues the reduction in the elements of the Federal bureaucracy that the President has determined are unnecessary,” stated President Donald Trump in the Executive Order. The White House has emphasized that these cuts will enhance accountability, reduce waste, promote innovation, and save taxpayer dollars.

Musk Leading Government Efficiency Drive

Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk is spearheading this federal restructuring as the leader of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The initiative has already identified potential cuts of over 100,000 federal jobs and the cancellation of numerous programs and contracts, with estimated savings of $115 billion.

Trump has set an ambitious goal for DOGE to identify $2 trillion in wasteful government spending before the department is scheduled to dissolve in 2026. This Executive Order builds on previous directives aimed at reducing the federal government’s size, eliminating non-essential agencies, and minimizing statutory functions.

The administration’s efforts appear to have strong public support, with an Epoch Times poll indicating overwhelming reader approval for DOGE’s mission. Conservative voters have long called for greater transparency and accountability in government spending, and this initiative directly addresses those concerns by targeting agencies many Americans don’t even know exist.
