Embattled movie star Kevin Spacey was interviewed on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” on June 11. During the course of the interview he discussed the financial difficulties he now faces after years of legal battles resulting from harassment allegations that sprang up in the midst of the the #MeToo movement.
The former “House of Cards” star revealed on the air that his house in Baltimore is being auctioned off after foreclosure, and that he owes millions of dollars to his lawyers. As he discussed his predicament, the host asked the actor where he lives now, and Spacey looked down whilst he appeared to be fighting back tears.
When he regained his composure, Spacey said that it was funny that the host should ask that question. He then related the story about his house’s foreclosure, saying that later in the week he has to put all his things in storage. At the time of the interview, Spacey said that he is not sure where he will be living once the process is finished.
In 2017 Spacey was fired from his hit Netflix series “House of Cards” as the consequence of allegations that he had directed unwanted and aggressive attention towards other actors and co-workers over the course of his career.
Last year, Spacey and his production companies were ordered by a judge in the Los Angeles Superior Court to pay the producers of “House of Cards” over thirty million dollars due to losses that his firing caused. The arbitrator on the case found that, as a result of his conduct on set, Spacey had violated the clause in his contract that required professional behavior.
Then, in July 2023, a London jury acquitted Spacey of charges brought against him by four men. A year prior to that, a jury in New York declined to hold him liable for alleged battery against Anthony Rapp in a civil suit stemming from an incident in the 1980s.
It remains to be seen whether Spacey will be forced to file for bankruptcy.
