(PatrioticPost.com) – If there’s one thing Michael Bloomberg didn’t want to do during the debates on Tuesday night, it’s praise the president. The former mayor of New York City recently became a rival of President Trump, after a lifetime of friendship in the city where both men built their empires.
Now, as he fights to take the Democratic presidential nomination from socialist Bernie Sanders, Bloomberg struggles to toe the line between saying what Democrats expect him to say and stating his true beliefs. When CBS moderators asked him about his foreign policy views, he had to be honest.
Referring to the withdrawal of troops from the Middle East, Bloomberg said, “No, you want to cut it back as much as you can.”
“But, I think if we learned something from 9/11, people plan things overseas and execute them here, we have to be able to stop terrorism, and there’s no guarantees that you’re going to be able to do it,” he added.
Bloomberg then explained how he believes America must maintain some kind of military presence in areas “where terrorists congregate,” stating that it would be irresponsible not to do so.
“We shouldn’t be fighting wars that we can’t win, we should go to war only as a last resort, nobody argues with that, but this is a dangerous world and if we haven’t learned that after 9/11 I don’t know what’s going to teach us what to do.”
And then, he was forced to compliment the president and the work done by his administration. President Trump and Michael Bloomberg, with their deep roots in New York, will have similar experiences relating to 9/11 and this may explain why they have some alignment on this issue.
“We have to do something, and I think that the things I’ve seen recently convinced me that the military today is better prepared than they’ve been in an awful long time. And that the moneys they are spending on the war of weapons we need for the next war and not the last, a common mistake that they are not making now,” he added, before concluding, “They’re doing a good job.”
Well, I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day!
