Ocasio-Cortez Plays Victim Card With Student Loans Despite Living Large

(JustPatriots.com)- Far-left New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reportedly only paid back less than $2,000 of her student loan debt between September 2019 and December 2021, despite the fact that she is earning a big salary as a member of the House of Congress, and making several big purchases since taking office.

The 32-year-old legislator has long advocated for wiping out all student debt, however, so it should probably come as no surprise that she isn’t prioritizing paying off her debt over making luxury purchases.

In 2020, Ocasio-Cortez owed somewhere between $15,001 and $50,000 in federal student loans. We know that because that’s what was included in her August, 2021, financial disclosure report. She detailed how the debt was accumulated between 2007 and 2011, and student loans are often paid off in a ten-year plan. However, in December of last year, Ocasio-Cortez noted that she still owed more than $17,000 in student loan debt.

In September 2019 – two years before, Ocasio-Cortez made a student loan repayment during a congressional hearing.

“I literally made a student loan payment while I was sitting here at this chair,” she said at the time. “I looked at my balance, and it is $20,237.16, and I just made a payment that took me down to $19,000, so I feel really accomplished right now.”

Just think about that. If what she is saying is true, it means that she paid less than $2,000 in student loan repayments between September of 2019 and December of 2021. And there’s absolutely no way that she can’t afford to make those repayments.

In that same period, Just The News reports that Ocasio-Cortez purchased a Tesla, which has a value of up to $59,000. She may, however, be leasing the vehicle – which is still extremely expensive. She also attended the Met Gala in New York City, where seats start at $35,000 and tables go for up to $300,000.

Perhaps she didn’t pay for it? Who knows. But whoever is paying for this stuff, and given that she rents an apartment in a building where rent is anywhere between $2,000 and $5,000 per month, it’s hard to imagine that AOC can’t afford to pay off a little more of her debt than that.
