Mother Charged with Murder After Baby’s Tragic Death from Cocaine and Heat Exposure

If you thought leaving a baby in a hot car was the worst it could get, think again: this baby was exposed to cocaine, heat, and neglect before his tragic death.

At a glance:

  • One-month-old Grayson Luncsford died from cocaine intoxication, heat stress, dehydration, and malnutrition, according to the coroner’s report.
  • His mother, Andrea Luncsford, has been charged with murder and child endangerment after the baby was found dead in a U-Haul truck.
  • Grayson’s grandfather found him unconscious in the vehicle and attempted to get help, but it was too late.

The case of an Illinois mother charged with the murder of her newborn son took a shocking turn when the coroner’s report revealed that one-month-old Grayson Luncsford died from cocaine intoxication, combined with heat stress, dehydration, and neglect. Authorities discovered the infant inside a U-Haul truck driven by his mother, Andrea Luncsford, following the funeral of the child’s father.

Grayson’s autopsy showed he had been dead for 12 to 24 hours before being found on September 16. Police noted that Andrea was behaving erratically when they arrived on the scene, and she later tested positive for cocaine. The report confirmed that the amount of cocaine in Grayson’s system was significant enough to be the immediate cause of death.

Andrea, a 26-year-old with a prior criminal record, had been warned by her own family. Her father, Andrew Luncsford, had pleaded with her to let the grandparents care for the baby, fearing for his safety in the heat. Tragically, his fears were realized when he found Grayson unresponsive in the truck.

Andrea Luncsford now faces charges of murder and endangering the life and health of a child. She has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody, awaiting her next court date in November.

There are some sick people out there. Truly.
