(JustPatriots.com)- Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo fueled speculation that he could run for president in the 2024 election, with recent efforts to boost his public profile causing media outlets to publicly ponder whether he would receive the support of former President Donald Trump.
The Hill reports that since leaving Washington, D.C. in January, the former Secretary of State has made several speaking appearance in New Hampshire and Iowa, which are the first two states to vote during the presidential primary races. He’s also regularly appeared as a contributor on Fox News, which gives him a substantial platform to speak directly to Republican voters.
Pompeo Is also actively involved in ongoing legislative efforts on Capitol Hill, working with Republican members of Congress to stop President Biden from lifting existing sanctions on Iran.
Pompeo is actively working to defend the progress made by the Trump administration and from his work as Secretary of State, while also increasing his public presence.
The Hill says that Republicans have “little doubt about Pompeo’s intentions,” adding that since he left the State Department he has engaged in a “by-the-book” approach to launching a presidential campaign.
Alex Conant, a former aide to Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, said that Pompeo is “building on his strengths” which include foreign policy.
“One of the challenges of running for president is you don’t know what voters will be looking for in three years,” Conant added. “If it’s a national security election, because of external events, all of a sudden Pompeo looks like a frontrunner.”
And if President Biden successfully ends sanctions on Iran, it could well end up being a national security election.
After Iran repeatedly insisted that the United States lift all sanctions, President Joe Biden eventually caved in the hope that the country – the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism – would come back into compliance with the disastrous Obama-era nuclear deal.
The deal that Iran never really complied with anyway…
Another Republican consultant told The Hill that Pompeo is “setting himself up to be the leader on America First policy after President Trump.”
“He’s leaning on the experience that he has in order to stand out and stay in the spotlight,” the source added.
Pompeo was directly asked about the possibility of running in 2024 by Sean Hannity recently.
“I’m always up for a good fight,” he responded. “I care deeply about America. You and I have been a part of the conservative movement for an awfully long time now. I am to keep at it.”
If President Donald Trump doesn’t run again in 2024…could Pompeo be his candidate?
