According to recent data, 59% of Americans report that either they or someone they know has fallen victim to an online scam within the past year. The financial toll of these scams is significant, with the average loss per victim reaching $1,471.
“Last year, Americans lost $330 million to text scams alone, more than double the previous year, with an average reported loss of $1,000,” Federal Trade Commission said.
The rise of deepfake technology and easily accessible AI tools has made it increasingly difficult for individuals to distinguish between genuine and fraudulent communications. This technological advancement has enabled scammers to create more convincing and widespread deceptive content, posing a greater threat to unsuspecting internet users.

McAfee’s Scam Detector includes several key features designed to provide comprehensive protection. These include Email Scam Detector, Text Scam Detector, and Deepfake Detector. The service will be included in McAfee+, McAfee Total Protection, and McAfee LiveSafe plans, making it accessible to a wide range of existing customers at no additional cost.

For new customers, McAfee offers a free trial of its Mobile Security service, which includes the Text Scam Detector. After the trial period, users can continue the service for $2.99 per month or $29.99 annually.
