(JustPatriots.com)- Actor Jim Carrey is the latest in a long line of celebrities to announce he would be leaving Twitter.
On Tuesday, Carrey posted to Twitter a cartoon based on one of his ugly paintings and announced that he was leaving Twitter, however, he did not say why. Though, it isn’t difficult to guess.
Since Elon Musk took over the company, several attention-hungry celebrities have made a grand show of announcing their departure from Twitter. It’s become the online version of “If Trump wins, I’m moving to Canada.”
After Twitter restored the long-suspended account of former President Donald Trump, White Stripes frontman Jack White also announced he was leaving.
In a tweet announcing his departure, White blasted Musk for restoring Trump’s account, calling it “absolutely disgusting” and an “asshole move.” He then accused Musk and Joe Rogan of only supporting Republicans because they don’t want to pay their “fair share” of taxes now that they’re rich.
White claimed Donald Trump was responsible for the January 6 riot at the Capitol, adding that Elon Musk only reinstated Trump because he wants to “help a fascist have a platform” in exchange for tax breaks. White claimed Musk’s giving Trump a platform on Twitter is no different from letting Trump hold a KKK rally from a stage Musk owns.
In addition to White, Nine Inch Nails lead singer Trent Reznor also made a great show of leaving Twitter to protest Trump’s account being restored.
Reznor left Twitter last Sunday after calling Musk’s takeover an “embarrassment.” He complained that people don’t need “the arrogance of the billionaire class” who think they “can just come in and solve everything.”
Reznor admitted that even before Musk took over, Twitter had “become such a toxic environment,” so “for my mental health,” he needed to “tune out.”
Last month, television producer Shona Rhimes announced she would be leaving Twitter now that Elon Musk holds the reins. So far, however, she hasn’t left.
Other celebrities to declare they were leaving the platform include Whoopi Goldberg, model Gigi Hadid, actress Debra Messing, and actors Alex Winter and Ken Olin.
