The show’s anchor, Joy Reid, discussed how Biden often defies low expectations and continues to deliver despite criticism.
She mentioned a recent incident where Biden tripped over a sandbag, causing uproar on social media and among right-wing critics.
Reid questioned why Biden’s normalcy seems to enrage the right, and Psaki offered her insights.
Psaki explained that in the 2020 election, Republicans attempted to find ways to discredit Biden but struggled because they couldn’t portray him as an extremist or offensive.
She emphasized that Biden’s identity as an older white man made him appealing to many in their base.
Psaki added that the Republicans had consistently underestimated Biden, who had worked to his advantage throughout his political career.
She noted that Biden’s experiences with being underestimated had given him a determined mindset and resilience. Despite the Republicans’ efforts to undermine him, they had yet to find an effective strategy to take him down.
Psaki revealed that during conversations with Republican strategists in 2020, they expressed reservations about facing Biden because people were not alarmed by him.
Psaki is a political advisor with experience in the Obama and Biden administrations.
She was the thirty-fourth White House press secretary during the Biden administration, serving until May 2022.
Affiliated with the Democratic Party, she previously served in the Obama administration as the United States Department of State spokesperson, White House deputy communications director, White House communications director, and the White House deputy press secretary.
