Ilhan Omar Makes Rare Statement Criticizing Radical Terror Attack

( Last Tuesday, five people were shot dead in Israel after a Palestinian terrorist opened fire in the ultra-orthodox city of Bnei Brak near Tel Aviv.

According to Israeli police, a preliminary investigation found that the assailant had used an assault rifle against civilians in several locations before being killed by local police.

The attacker, Dia Hamarsheh, was a Palestinian from the West Bank. He was armed with an M-16 rifle. The armed wing of the Palestinian Fatah movement, Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, claimed responsibility for the attack saying it was a message “written in blood in response to the Negev summit.”

The Negev summit was the historic meeting hosted by Israel earlier in the week with foreign ministers from four Arab countries and the United States.

One of the five dead in last Tuesday’s shooting was a police officer who attempted to intervene. Another victim was holding his baby when he was shot and killed. The baby was unhurt in the shooting. Also dead were two Ukrainian citizens who were sitting outside of a convenience store at the time of the shooting.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar condemned the shooting, calling it a “horrific, appalling terror attack.” Omar tweeted that “violence only begets more violence” and added that her thoughts were with the five victims “and their loved ones.”

Omar’s condemnation of the Palestinian terror attack came as a surprise to some given her virulent opposition to Israel, her history of anti-Semitic remarks, and her full-throated support for the Palestinian terrorists.
