Another scary and potentially violent situation happened this week when local police said that shots were fired toward the Arizona office of the presidential campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris.
This of course comes about a week after the second assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump happened outside of one of his golf clubs in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The Tempe Police Department told The New York Post that the shots were fired sometime after midnight on Monday. It wasn’t until the next morning that someone noticed the damage that had occurred from several bullets being shot at the office.
The damage was done at the campaign office of the Democratic National Committee in the city, which is located near Priest Drive and Southern Avenue.
Sergeant Ryan Cook, the public information officer of the department, said:
“No one was inside the office during the overnight hours, but this raises concerns about the safety of those who work in that building, as well as those nearby.”
Law enforcement officials said that detectives are still analyzing the evidence they collected from the scene. In the meantime, security has been increased for the office’s staff members as well as other people who are in the area.
When staff members arrived at the office, they reported that they believed they saw damage from gunshots in the front windows of the building.
This marks the second time that damage has been done to that office in the last two weeks.
The first incident occurred after midnight on September 16. Police said that a pellet gun or BB gun was apparently used to fire shots at the front windows of the DNC’s Arizona office in Tempe.
Authorities are still investigating what the motive might be behind both incidents, and they haven’t made any arrests as of yet.
Harris herself was scheduled to be at a campaign event in Arizona on Friday, which would mark the second trip she’s made recently to the state, which is projected to be a crucial swing state in November’s selection.
Harris’ campaign didn’t say in advance which city that the vice president would be visiting, though.
Campaigning like this is surely going to ramp up in the coming weeks as both Harris and Trump look to gain as many voters as they can in these swing states. There are only about six weeks left until Election Day, and most polls show that Harris and Trump are neck-and-neck.
Trump was able to win Arizona during the 2016 presidential election, edging Democrat Hillary Clinton. But, in 2020, President Joe Biden was able to flip the state back to blue, although he only won it by less than 11,000 votes.
That marked the smallest margin for any state during the 2020 presidential election, which makes the state — and 11 Electoral Votes — all that more important this time around.
