Footage of Donald Trump’s VP pick, JD Vance, referring to high-level Democrats as “childless cat ladies” has caused an online storm and prompted voters – particularly women – to respond in some creative ways. Memes featuring women with cats and “Vote Kamala” signs flooded social media, and A-lister Jennifer Aniston weighed in, saying it is none of Vance’s business whether women have children or not.
Vance made the comments during a 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson. The would-be Vice President complained that America had given control to “childless cat ladies” in the Democratic Party who had no stake in the nation’s future. He highlighted three individuals as examples: New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Hitting back, Kerstin Emhoff said Vance’s claims about the Vice President were “baseless.” Emhoff is the ex-wife of Harris’s husband, Douglas Emhoff, and she told reporters that the Vice President has been a warm and active stepmom to her kids. Harris married Emhoff in 2014 and later wrote about the joy and love she experienced with her stepchildren.
Friends star Jennifer Aniston was furious with Mr. Vance, saying she had tried to conceive and could not. The actress mentioned Vance’s daughter and said, “I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children.” She added, “I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States.”
The public spat between the actress and the politician was exacerbated when Mr. Vance hit back at Jennifer Aniston and called her remarks “disgusting.” Speaking on the Megyn Kelly Show, Vance said his daughter is only two years old, making Aniston’s comments inappropriate. The Ohio Senator added that if his young daughter were to find herself with fertility problems, he would do all he could to help her because “families and babies are a good thing.”
The Vice-Presidential hopeful dug his heels in and repeated his assertion to Kelly. He clarified that he has nothing against cats, but the substance of his comments remains valid, and people ought to focus on that.
