(JustPatriots.com)- While it probably doesn’t come as a surprise, Dr. Anthony Fauci’s ever-shifting goalposts regarding masking have once again shifted.
Appearing on Meet the Press Sunday, Dr. Fauci suggested that mask-wearing may become a seasonal thing (Video below).
“We’ve had practically a non-existent flu season this year merely because people were doing the kinds of public health things that were directed predominantly against COVID-19,” Fauci said. “So it is conceivable that as we go on, a year or two or more from now, that during certain seasonal periods when you have respiratory-borne viruses like the flu, people might actually elect to wear masks to diminish the likelihood that you’ll spread these respiratory-borne diseases.”
This is never going to end.
Ironic that the man who initially scoffed at the notion of people walking around in masks is now floating the idea that people mask up every flu season.
In the same interview, Fauci predicted that we won’t see another surge in COVID cases once the majority of Americans are vaccinated. The vaccine, said Fauci, “is really a game-changer.”
As usual, Fauci’s messaging is a bag of contradictions. If vaccines are a game-changer, why require masks during flu season when every year Americans can easily receive a flu shot?
Or is Fauci hoping to use the seasonal flu as a way to remain relevant once COVID is behind us?
True Dr. Fauci only said “people might actually elect to wear masks.” But given the past fourteen months, it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that some governors or mayors may decide that leaving it up to the discretion of each individual isn’t enough.
Would a Governor Whitmer or Cuomo be satisfied with simply letting their citizens decide for themselves whether or not to wear a mask during flu season? Or would they decide to require it?
For that matter, would Dr. Fauci?
Given how frequently he changes direction or revises guidelines, how long before Fauci himself decides that seasonal mask-wearing should be required?
