DeSantis Proposes Ban on Funding Where CRT is Used

(JustPatriots.com)- Last week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced proposed legislation to ban state funds from going to schools that employ critical race theory in teaching and prohibit corporations from including CRT in employee training programs.

In announcing the “Stop WOKE Act,” DeSantis blasted critical race theory and “wokeness” in general as an attempt to “delegitimize” history and institutions, calling “wokeness” a “form of cultural Marxism” that wants to “tear at the fabric of our society and our culture.”

He’s not wrong.

The legislation would prevent state funds from going to CRT in both K-12 and higher education. In defending the proposed legislation, DeSantis asserted that no taxpayer money should be used to “teach our kids to hate our country” or each other.

DeSantis hammered CRT as a “cottage industry” where people make “huge amounts of money” to teach school children and employees “how racist capitalism is.” He scoffed at the push for “equity,” noting that “equity” is just another way for the Left to “smuggle in their ideology.”

If the legislation is adopted, it would expand on Governor DeSantis’ earlier directive to the Florida Department of Education prohibiting the inclusion of critical race theory in public schools. The new legislation would also treat CRT training in businesses as maintaining “a hostile work environment” under Florida law.

DeSantis asked how could it not be a hostile work environment to attack employees based on their race or accuse them as being “part of oppressive systems when all they’re doing is showing up for work or trying to earn a living.”

Calling corporate CRT training “corporate-sanctioned racism,” DeSantis said this legislation will give employees the ability to protect themselves from what amounts to harassment:

DeSantis said he has a responsibility “to stand for the truth.” But it is also his responsibility to protect the people “from some very pernicious ideologies that are trying to be forced upon them all across the country.”
