Cuomo Deflects Blame Over Care Home Deaths, Blames FEDERAL GOV For His Decisions

( New York Governor Andrew Cuomo attempted to shift the blame over his state’s terrible record on COVID-19 deaths this week. The Democratic governor said that nursing homes were not told to take COVID-19 patients, claimed his state managed to effectively deal with the crisis, and shifted the blame to President Donald Trump.

Cuomo said that New York “flattened the curve effectively.” He also added that, on the topic of sending COVID-positive patients into nursing homes, “It just never happened in New York, where we needed to say to a nursing home, ‘We need you to take this person even though they’re COVID positive.’”

“It never happened,” he added.

But is that true? Well…no.

Business Insider reports how Cuomo is “shamelessly trying to memory-hole his coronavirus nursing home fiasco” and that New York state did in fact order nursing homes to accept patients who tested positive for COVID-19.

On March 25, Cuomo ordered nursing homes to admit patients who tested positive for COVID 19.

“No resident shall be denied re-admission or admission to the [nursing home] solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19,” the order said.

That means nursing homes were ordered to take patients even if they tested positive for the Chinese coronavirus, which put thousands of elderly and vulnerable people at risk, and resulted in thousands of deaths. The order was put in place to free up hospital beds, even though President Donald Trump sent in a Navy ship to help free up space for him. The ship was never used by Cuomo’s administration, opting instead to continue sending COVID patients into nursing homes.

Reports suggest that as many as 4,500 COVID patients were sent to New York nursing homes in May alone, rising to 6,300 in July.

Now, Cuomo wants us to believe it didn’t happen. Not only did he tell the press this week that he never issued such an order, the Department of Health removed the relevant edict from its website about using nursing homes to free up hospital beds.

Cuomo was asked about his claims that he can sleep knowing that he “saved lives.”

“What would you say to New York residents who lost their loved ones in nursing homes due to your mandate back in late March regarding sending COVID-positive patients back to nursing homes?” the Daily News asked.

“Yeah, I would say, first of all, that’s not why they lost a loved one,” he said. “Your premise, the premise of your question, is just factually wrong. People who were lost in nursing homes were lost because that’s where the virus preys. The virus preys on senior citizens. The virus was introduced in this country in Washington, state of Washington in a nursing home. That’s who succumb to this virus, are immune-compromised senior citizens, and they’re predominantly located in nursing homes.”

Cuomo didn’t address the fact that the virus got into the nursing homes by…sending in COVID patients.

Can he be any more shameless?
