CNN Executive Allison Gollust Resigns After Investigation Reveals ‘Violations’

( Yet another executive with CNN has resigned after an investigation that all stemmed from former star Chris Cuomo’s close ties with his brother — former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

This time, it was Allison Gollust who resigned on Tuesday. She was the mainstream media company’s top officer for communications and marketing.

Her departure follows that of Jeff Zucker, CNN’s former president, who resigned earlier in February after it was found that he had an affair with one of his fellow executives.

The reasoning behind Zucker’s departure from the network had remained under wraps for a few weeks now, with the company’s CEO Jason Kilar keeping that information close to the vest.

But, on Tuesday night, WarnerMedia — the parent company that owns CNN — released a statement about the situation. They do so, apparently, after The New York Times notified them about a story they were finalizing regarding the departures of both Cuomo and Zucker.

In that statement, Kilar wrote:

“Based on interviews of more than 40 individuals and a review of over 100,000 texts and emails, the investigation found violations of company policies, including CNN’s News Standards and Practices.

“We have the highest standards of journalistic integrity at CNN, and those rules must apply to everyone equally. Given the information provided to me in the investigation, I strongly believe we have taken the right actions and the right decisions have been made.”

On February 2, Zucker resigned from the company after he failed to notify executives that he had a relationship with Gollust. That goes against CNN’s company policy.

For her part, Gollust ended up resigning on Tuesday as well. But, she had harsh words for her now former employer and the public action it took in explaining the situation.

Ina statement of her own, Gollust said:

“WarnerMedia’s statement tonight is an attempt to retaliate against me and change the media narrative in the wake of their disastrous handling of the last two weeks. It is deeply disappointing that after spending the last nine years defending and upholding CNN’s highest standards of journalistic integrity, I would be treated this way as I leave.”

The entire ordeal started on November 30, when Zucker and Gollust held a meeting with Cuomo to inform him that CNN was suspending him.

The reasoning for the suspension at the time was Cuomo’s “unethical interactions” with his brother, who was governor of New York at the time.

The Times reports that Cuomo was shocked at that decision and offered up his resignation. Zucker said it was possible that Cuomo might be able to return to the network at some point.

Less than 24 hours after that, though, a lawyer who represented a woman who worked with Cuomo at ABC News for year sent a letter to CNN claiming Cuomo sexually assaulted her.

The situation blew up in the media — and in CNN’s face following Cuomo’s suspension. That week, Zucker fired Cuomo.

Only two months later, Zucker resigned as well after the investigation into the Cuomo situation unveiled his secret relationship with Gollust.
