Everyone in Hollywood wants their fifteen minutes of fame, and some of them aren’t content to wait for it to come to them. Such was the case for an alleged armed robber in Los Angeles this week, who livestreamed the business end of a police chase to social media—all while his girlfriend and her baby were with him in the car.
The livestream, posted to Instagram on Wednesday, July 17, showed the driver fleeing police who were seeking him in relation to a robbery in Beverly Hills. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the driver is one of three individuals suspected in the hold-up. The other two individuals, however, were not the woman and child in the back seat of his car.
News helicopters provided an aerial view of the chase while the suspect broadcasted live from the driver’s seat in a visible state of panic. Inside the vehicle his girlfriend can be heard sobbing and yelling at him and begging him to consider the safety of their child. The driver, however, continued the chase, telling his girlfriend that he had to somehow avoid going back to jail.
The girlfriend, not to be dissuaded, kept on. She urged him to “think about your baby,” telling him that he was “fixing to get [his] baby killed!”
Eventually, the suspect’s concern for his partner and their child triumphed, and he allowed himself to be persuaded. According to TMZ, he ended the chase by pulling over in a dead-end neighborhood end street in West Los Angeles. After the suspect stopped the car, he opened the door and stepped out into view of the police. After taking a long and emotional moment to say goodbye to his baby and his girlfriend, and then made good his surrender. Officers on scene placed him under arrest and took him into custody, and then saw to the safety of the woman and her child.
