AG Barr Wanted To Charge BLM/Antifa Rioters With SEDITION

(JustPatriots.com)- Attorney General William Barr has been pretty strict when it comes to the violent far-left extremist rioters, and a new report suggests that he even suggested that those responsible for violent riots should be charged with sedition. Barr reportedly made the suggestion during a phone call with federal prosecutors last week, specifically referencing the violent extremists attacking Portland and Seattle.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Attorney General Barr “told federal prosecutors in a call last week that they should consider charging rioters and others who committed violent crimes at protests in recent months with sedition.”

Two people familiar with the call made the claim, and CNN said that the suggestion “alarmed” some members of the law profession. Which is exactly what CNN would say. Should protesters be charged with sedition it would mean that, specifically, they were conspiring to undermine or overthrow the democratically elected federal government. CNN didn’t say why people thought it was alarming, given that that’s exactly what the protesters are doing.

To be charged with sedition is serious. It rarely happens but when it does, it doesn’t typically result in a conviction. CNN said that the federal government did it in 2010 against a “right-wing militia” known as the Hutarees, charging them with seditious conspiracy. Those involved, however, were acquitted owing to a lack of evidence.

Sedition laws were famously used to convict Puerto Rican separatist activists in the 1930s.

Given that Black Lives Matter and Antifa are literally attacking politicians in the streets (remember they attacked Rand Paul and his wife?) and are literally burning down and firebombing federal buildings, the evidence seems pretty overwhelming at this point that far-left extremists are trying to undermine the government.

While prosecutors may not follow through on Barr’s suggestion, significant resources are being pumped into federal law enforcement and some 74 people have already been charged in Portland with various federal crimes. Rioters have been charged with damaging federal property, arson, and assaulting federal officers.

And, according to the Associated Press, at least 300 people have been arrested nationally during Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots.
